You’ve got to make sure your vehicle is all set for winter. Cars don’t really like cold weather, but they can’t put on a heavy winter coat. (Of course, you’ve got to keep up with car maintenance all year, but winter requires extra attention.)

2. Take it slow.
You’ve got to slow down and take it easy. When it’s icky and snowy, it’s harder to get the car to stop and to get the car to do what you want. Anyways, don’t rush. Get to know your car and how it handles the snow.
3. Check the weather.
Get into the habit of checking the weather so you know what you’re up against. If you can plan your trips around the weather so you can avoid the nasty grossness, do so. Just stay off the roads if you need to.

Another thing that you might want to do is to pack an “Oh Crap” kit for just in case things go wrong. Include things like flashlights, blankets, jumper cables, and emergency lights – along with anything else that you deem would be helpful in an emergency.
